International activities 23 September 2024
Professor Moldobaeva M.S. and assistant Atakulov B.A. took part in the international conference of the TOGAS project ("Towards the introduction of gastric cancer screening in the European Union"), which was held on September 12, 2024 in Porto (Portugal).

At the conference, they presented a report on the potential of Kyrgyzstan in the field of prevention and early diagnosis of gastric cancer, as well as the country's possible participation in the TOGAS project. The project is aimed at researching and developing effective methods of screening for gastric cancer. In their report, representatives of the KGMA stressed importance of conducting research in this area and noted that Kyrgyzstan has capacity to develop and implement a screening program due to the high relevance of this problem.
One of main aspects of the TOGAS project is the fight against Helicobacter pylori, which is the main risk factor for gastric cancer. According to previous studies, eliminating this bacteria can reduce death rate from stomach cancer by up to 40%. KSMA teachers discussed the prospects and challenges associated with the implementation of these preventive measures in Kyrgyzstan, as well as the importance of adapting international practices to local conditions.
